Expedition life

For better understanding of the situation in the team and all the expedition life you have to know our approximate time schedule. The sub-teams change after about 16 hours and they change also the cars. We have one Citroen Berlingo as a support car for the rider and one Renault Master with four beds inside as a rest car. That means that we have to change all the necessary stuff which we need for riding or sleeping. In the Master we have all the expedition equipment, food, spare frame for the bike, spare wheels and also clothes which we do not need during cycling.

Crossing the Arctic Circle

To make our stories clear we have named our two sub-teams. We named them after their members 'Honza' and 'Eva'. In Eva's team there are Eva, Martin, Jirka and Sjaak. In Honza's team are Honza, Eliska, Peter and Karel.

Nordkapp - First day

This morning at 10:15 we arrived with our team at Nordkapp. The weather was very nice, sunny and around 15 degrees celsius. We had a look around at the area and took the usual photos. Martin prepared himself for cycling the first part of our route. At 12.05 he left for the hilly route to the mainland. The mainland is connected with a tunnel, which goes to 212 meter below sea level and it is 6800 meter long. Going downhill in the tunnel Martin reached a speed of 95 km/h and overtook two mobile homes... Going uphill was much harder again. After about 100 km Martin had an average of 30,2 km/h.

Helsinki

We are in Helsinki now. We have crossed 4 countries and went by car 1500 km. In Poland Karel got fined for speeding, which was the first time and hopefully last :-)
Finding a camping place took quite a while and brought us to bad double track. But we managed to find a nice place just outside Tallinn.
Today early morning we took the ferry to Helsinki.
We will continue to Nordkapp through whole Finland and Norway and probably tomorrow or the day after we will start our bicycle journey.

Start of the expedition

Today morning at 10 am was the official start of our expedition. Many reporters came to the town square of Uherské Hradiště to film and interview us. So today will be a lot of publicity in Czech television channels, radio and newspapers. Leaving the busy time from preparing behind us, we all look forward to the trip with good mood.
The next few days we'll travel by our cars to the Nordkapp. Our route will go through Poland, the Baltic States and Finland. In Helsinki we'll visit the AZUB dealer www.sahkopyora.net.
